Midkine as a novel biomarker for contrast-induced acute kidney injury

چکیده

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is an intrinsic caused by contrast injection in susceptible individuals. Although the pathophysiological mechanisms which agents induce have not been completely explained, direct and indirect effects, as well hemodynamic perturbations, suggested. Renal effects develop immediately after injection, and, theoretically, they could be detected early using a sensitive biomarker. Recently, studies conducted to determine specific biomarkers guide diagnosis of CI-AKI thus improve outcomes these patients. Midkine (MK) heparin-binding growth factor that balances cell growth, survival, migration. It has antiapoptotic activity nephrogenesis. investigated biomarker for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) stable angina was significantly higher post PCU. However, more are needed validate its efficacy detection CI-AKI.

Midkine: A Novel and Early Biomarker of Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Interventions

We tested the hypothesis whether midkine could represent an early biomarker of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI) in 89 patients with normal serum creatinine undergoing PCI. Midkine, serum and urinary NGAL, and cystatin C were evaluated before and 2, 4, 8, 24, and 48 hours after PCI using commercially available kits. Serum creatinine was assessed before and 24 and 48 hours after PCI. ...

Novel Biomarkers for Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury

Biomarkers of acute kidney injury (AKI) may be classified in 2 groups: (1) those representing changes in renal function (e.g., serum creatinine or cystatin C and urine flow rate) and (2) those reflecting kidney damage (e.g., kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), interleukin-18, etc.). According to these 2 fundamental criteria, 4 subgroups have been...

Case Presentation: A 63-year-old man with prior mitral valve repair, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and mild chronic renal insufficiency (creatinine 1 year earlier, 1.2 mg/dL) presents to the emergency department with progressive dyspnea on exertion and new anterior T-wave inversions. Subsequent laboratory testing confirms a myocardial infarction (troponin I, 11.0 ng/mL) and worsening renal insu...

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury.

Cardiac angiography and coronary/vascular interventions depend on iodinated contrast media and consequently pose the risk of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). This is an important complication that accounts for a significant number of cases of hospital-acquired renal failure, with adverse effects on prognosis and health care costs. The epidemiology and pathogenesis of contrast-induced...
